WD Partners garners six best-of-retail design awards for grocery, c-store, and restaurant projects

Benihana, The Home Depot Fuel, TravelCenters of America Goasis, and Supervalu "Premium Fresh and Healthy" stores are honored

Leading retail design and development firm WD Partners has won six national design awards for retail and restaurant projects opened in 2006. The annual competitions' results are highly regarded, and are used by retail and restaurant companies searching for a shortlist of "hot" firms for upcoming projects. The competitions were judged by marketing and design managers from national retailers, such as Bank of America, Harley Davidson and Neiman Marcus, as well as trade publication editors and other design professionals.

WD Partners' winning projects include:

Benihana, a theatrical new restaurant designed to reinvigorate the 43-year old brand, as well as improve the effectiveness of the restaurants' operations. Benihana received awards in three competitions: a First Place, Chain Store Age's "Retail Store of the Year"; an Honorable Mention, Institute of Store Planners/VM+SD International Retail Design Competition; and a Grand Prize from the NASFM (National Assn. of Store Fixture Manufacturers) Retail Design Awards.

The Home Depot Fuel, a new c-store format designed to serve The Home Depot's contractor customer. Chain Store Age's "Retail Store of the Year" Special Award for Brand Extension.

TravelCenters' Goasis, a "next generation" highway rest stop. Chain Store Age's "Retail Store of the Year" Special Award for Customer Amenities.

Albertsons/Supervalu's "Premium Fresh & Healthy," an upscale store design for the neighborhood market that emphasizes fresh food departments and organics. Chain Store Age's "Retail Store of the Year" Honorable Mention.

The company was also recently named as the 2nd largest retail design and architecture firm in the nation. The industry rankings were announced in the January/February issue of Retail Construction Magazine, and in the March issue of Display and Design Ideas. More than 22 million square feet and 2,000 retail and restaurant projects were completed for retailers and restaurants such as Starbucks, Arby's, Wawa, Wendy's, Cosi, and Safeway.
