According to the World Economic Forum, “nearly half of US adults are projected to live with obesity by 2030… meanwhile, 50% of people globally will experience a mental health disorder in their lifetime and 80% of Americans with prediabetes remain undiagnosed.” In light of the current and projected health forecast, consumers are demanding support and guidance for personalized wellness journeys, and health care providers are seeking a way to change the worrisome trajectory of our population’s health. The traditional healthcare system is inundated with chronic disease, short-staffed, and operating on tight margins that make it difficult to incorporate preventive measures into a patient’s care. Longevity clinics are embracing proactive health and creating maps for a healthier life based on foundational pillars but are missing reactive care for those dealing with ongoing health conditions. A system is needed between preventive care and chronic disease management to provide a detailed health plan that meets people where they are in their whole health journey and optimizes where they are going.

Enter BLU by ThriveWell™. Based in Fort Lauderdale, this concept offers comprehensive care through a fully integrated health, wellness, and longevity roadmap tailored to each Member. By looking at the whole person, BLU by ThriveWell™ fosters behavioral change through its 3×5 Approach and helps guide members through their health journey, based on personal purpose, with actionable steps that lead to positive outcomes.
In this Q&A with Gordon L. Chen, MD, Chief Executive Officer of BLU and Board-certified Cardiologist and Internal Medicine physician, and Jessica Chen, MD, Co-founder and Chief Health & Wellness Officer at BLU, we learn more about how BLU by ThriveWell™ is breaking the traditional healthcare mold and creating a new offering bridging the gap between proactive and reactive health.

Q: What inspired your shift from traditional healthcare with ChenMed to your healthspan optimization concept with BLU by ThriveWell™?
A: At ChenMed, we saw better outcomes, fewer hospitalizations, and more healthy years when you deliver proactive, relationship-based care for seniors. That experience also made something very clear: if we can create that level of focus and support earlier, before chronic disease takes hold, the impact on healthspan can be even greater.
BLU by ThriveWell™ was born from that conviction, which combines evidence-based longevity medicine, advanced fitness and recovery, and high-touch coaching in a setting designed to help people build healthy habits for life. We’re also passionate about the idea of a longevity community, not just studying what works elsewhere, but building a culture of health and accountability right here in South Florida.

Q: What role does behavioral change have in creating sustainable outcomes for members, and how does BLU by ThriveWell™ support that change? You’ve mentioned having a sense of purpose supports sustainable behavioral change – how do you help people find their sense of purpose and keep them accountable on their path to add more life to their years?
A: Behavior change is the “multiplier” for everything else. Testing and data matter, but outcomes only improve when people can translate insights into consistent, sustained action.
We support that change through a structured, personalized approach: clear goals, measurable milestones, regular coaching touchpoints, and a community that reinforces healthy norms. The focus isn’t perfection, but rather consistency, progress, and building systems that hold up over time.
Purpose is the “why” behind behavior change. When people are connected to what matters most, family, calling, service, legacy, they’re more likely to do the hard, unglamorous work that health requires.
We help members define an aspirational vision for their healthspan and connect that to practical steps: how they want to show up, what they want to be able to do, and who they want to do it with. From there, we build an accountability plan that’s realistic and individualized, anchoring the habits to meaning, not just motivation.
Q: Health is not one size fits all. You have a multi-tiered membership model that reflects that. Why have you chosen the membership model for your concept, and what do the tiers provide?
A: We chose a membership model because this is not a one-time transaction but rather a relationship and a long-term commitment on both sides. People have different starting points, different goals, and different levels of support they want.
The tiers allow us to match the intensity of coaching, testing, training, recovery, and medical guidance to each member’s needs. Regardless of tier, the core is the same: personalization, measurable progress, and a high standard of support.
Q: How does BLU by ThriveWell™ create a cohesive hybrid care experience for each individual on their health journey? How do you tie together in-person and digital experiences to support ongoing care for your members? In addition, how do you see AI integrating into these experiences?
A: The best results come from combining human connection with smart systems. In-person relationships build trust and drive accountability. Digital tools help reinforce habits between visits and keep progress visible.
We already use technology to organize data, highlight risks, and track trends over time. We see AI playing an increasing role in pattern recognition and personalization, and helping surface what matters most, sooner. That said, for sustainable behavior change, the human-to-human element remains central.

Q: How does your team integrate with additional physicians and guides from whom your members already receive care guidance?
A: We operate collaboratively. Many members already have trusted physicians, therapists, and specialists, and we respect that. With the member’s permission, we coordinate, share relevant findings, and help align the plan so the left hand and right hand aren’t working against each other.
Our goal is to complement existing care: fill gaps in prevention and performance, support decision-making, and help the member navigate complexity with clarity.
Q: Historically, healthcare hasn’t provided wellness options, and longevity concepts haven’t focused on sick care. How do you bridge the gap between longevity and chronic disease management in your care plans, and how do your Pillars of Health and Wellness and Vitality Measures support this? How do you see BLU by ThriveWell™ evolving to further connect proactive and reactive care?
A: We’re able to bridge that gap because our team has deep experience caring for complex chronic disease, and we’re equally committed to upstream prevention. That allows us to build plans that are proactive but still clinically grounded when medical issues arise.
Our framework and “vitality measures” (VO2 Max, Lean Muscle Mass, Visceral & Body Fat %, Balance and Mobility, and Grip Strength) help members see what’s changing and what to prioritize so plans are measurable, not vague. Over time, we expect BLU to evolve even further as a connector between proactive optimization and reactive needs, helping members stay ahead of risk while also navigating real-world medical events with confidence.

Q: What does the future look like for the growth of BLU by ThriveWell™ to other markets and locations?
A: We’re building with scalability in mind, but right now our priority is doing the fundamentals exceptionally well. This includes delivering an outstanding experience and measurable outcomes for members. We’re learning continuously as we refine the model.
We’re excited about the long-term potential to impact other communities, but we’re being intentional: prove it, refine it, and only then replicate it.
In an ecosystem where traditional healthcare isn’t yet built for wellness, and longevity clinics haven’t been designed to integrate chronic disease management, BLU by ThriveWell™ is a concept that provides the whole-body care consumers are demanding. The program builds on the idea that we all age, but it’s how we age that matters, and that every person can change the trajectory of their health throughout their lifespan. They can do this with the support of innovative leaders, such as BLU by ThriveWell™, that meet people where they are in their health journey and create a continuum of care for a life that is longer, stronger, intentional, and purposeful.
