Results  |  Brief TravelCenters provides professional drivers services for the long haul. The complex design includes gasoline, foodservice, retail, entertainment, and other roadside conveniences. WD was asked to value engineer and roll out a new prototype—including site planning, concept site and building plans, construction documents, foodservice design, and structural engineering for each location. Our team of engineers and architects consolidated designs for exterior architecture, structural, electrical, and mechanical engineering—reducing per-unit costs by more than $400,000. We were also able to cut construction 30 days with a more efficient structural shell and system. That really keeps things rolling.

Results  |  Brief TravelCenters already had name recognition. Why not extend the offering to a wider base? WD helped the roadside giant develop a brand to reach families. Called Goasis, the clean, family-friendly store is a "sure thing" for travelers on the main East/West, North/South Interstates. Travelers find fuel and a wide range of quality food and beverages in a clean, open, comfortable environment, including familiar co-brands such as Starbucks and Pizza Hut. Colors and materials are light, clean, and refreshing. Family-friendly bathrooms allow parents to use facilities with their kids. The special and unexpected treat: a kid-sized toilet and vanity!

Goasis is outperforming industry average merchandise and food sales. More important, the concept is showing higher than industry average gross margin.
